Week at a Glance, 7th-11th
September 6-10, 2010
7th Grade
Science- We will be looking at the cell membrane and how it is a semi-permeable one. Osmosis is our next topic.
Algebra 1 - We will explore the properties of multiplication and division, and then work on determining the probability of certain outcomes.
Literature: We will continue learning the joys of grammar (nouns, pronouns, adjectives articles...) Test Wednesday over Hammurabi's Code, our "Defending the Standard" activity, and grammar. We will also begin our first literature essay. .
Pre-Algebra: We will continue to explore different ways to simplify algebraic expressions. We will have a Quiz on Friday covering Chapter 2.1 and 2.2
Bible: We will discuss the coming of Isaac and the covenant God makes with Abraham.
8th Grade
Physical Science: We will study air pressure and the layers of the atmosphere.
Algebra 1 - We will explore the properties of multiplication and division, and then work on determining the probability of certain outcomes.
Literature: We will finish To Kill a Mockingbird, discuss themes, and take a test on Wednesday. We will also enjoy the cinematic version from 1962 and discuss its faithfulness to the book.
Pre-Algebra: We will continue to explore different ways to simplify algebraic expressions. We will have a Quiz on Friday covering Chapter 2.1 and 2.2Bible: We will study the parables of Jesus and their purpose in His life and ministry.
9th Grade
Algebra 2 - This week we will be writing equations of lines and finding correlation and best-fit lines. We will then move in to linear inequalities.
Spanish I - We will learn how to talk about personity traits and to describe others in Spanish. We will learn some adjectives and learn a little about cultural perspectives on friendship.
Literature: After reading about the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet, we will continue to discuss why this is one of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies. We will have a test Wednesday and begin The Scarlett Letter.
Bible: We will study the parables of Jesus and their purpose in Jesus' life and ministry.
10th Grade
Geometry - We will continue to develop our deductive reasoning skills and apply them to proofs of geometric statements.
Spanish II - We will practice using the verbs "saber" & "conocer"; use "hacer" + time expressions; we will learn that dropping the "r" from infinitives and adding "cion" is the same as our "tion" in English. We will learn a little about the Tango, Merengue, Flamenco & Swing dances in the Spanish world.
Bible: We will study the life of the patriarchs and their covenant with Yahweh.
11th Grade
Transitional Math: We will study and graph simultaneous equations and inequalities
Physics: We will work with two-dimensional vectors.
Spanish II - We will practice using the verbs "saber" & "conocer"; use "hacer" + time expressions; we will learn that dropping the "r" from infinitives and adding "cion" is the same as our "tion" in English. We will learn a little about the Tango, Merengue, Flamenco & Swing dances in the Spanish world.
Literature: We will complete Sense and Sensibility and have a test Wednesday. We will enjoy the BBC's newest cinematic version and compare/contrast it with the book.
Bible: We will study the life of the patriarchs and their covenant with Yahweh.
August 30-September 3,2010
7th Grade
Bible - We will finish up our study of Noah and take a test on that section Tuesday. We will start discussing the story of Abram this week and the importance of covenants in the Bible.
History: Rulers. Do we need them?
Literature: Why did King Hammurabi construct Hammurabi's Code? How do laws benefit or hurt society? This week we will finish up Hammurabi and begin The Children's Homer
Science- We are studying the different organelles found in the cell. PROJECT cell is due on Wednesday! TEST FRIDAY!
Algebra 1 - We will take a deeper look at the real number system applying the properties of addition and multiplication. We will also be using matrices to organize data and compute values.
Pre-Algebra - We will have a test on Chapter 1 on Tuesday. As we begin Chapter 2, we will look at techniques for solving algebraic equations, such as the distributive property and simplifying like terms.
8th Grade
Bible - We will continue studying the Gospels and have a test over the Sermon on the Mount and the early portion of Jesus' ministry on Tuesday.
History: Rome.
Literature: We will finish reading To Kill a Mockingbird and see the outcome of Atticus's trial. How does Maycomb handle race relations? What can we learn about how to treat others?
Physical Science - We will study ozone, air pollutantsand air pressure.

Algebra I/B - This week we will continue our study of exponents and take a look at applications of exponents.
9th Grade
Bible - We will continue studying the Gospels and have a test over the Sermon on the Mount and the early portion of Jesus' ministry on Tuesday.
Literature: Romeo and Juliet are secretly married. Romeo is banished. Juliet is scheduled to marry someone else. How will they escape tensions in Verona? Will they make it to Mantua?
Spanish I - We will learn about cognates; how to express negative sentences; expressing agreement or disagreement; how to pronounce vowels. We will learn a little about Spain's culture and how to mambo.
Algebra 2 - We will complete the first chapter and have a test on the material on Tuesday. We will then move on to investigating linear functions by using graphs, and finding their slope and rate of change.
Biology: We will continue studying bacteria. We should be ready for a test on Module 2 by Friday.
History: Foundations for the Reformation.
10th Grade
Bible - We will finish up our study on the Tower of Babel and discuss the line of Shem through Abram this next week.
History: Great Generals.
Transition Math - We will graph simultaneous equations
Spanish II - We will beginb chapter 1B, pgs. 44-56. "Que haces despues de las clases?" Make comparisons using 'tan' and 'tanto'; we will review the verbs, "saber" & "conocer".
Geometry - We will wrap up chapter one and have our first test on Tuesday. We will then move on to learning how to use inductive reasoning and analyzing conditional statements in mathematics.
Biology: We will continue studying bacteria. We should be ready for a test on Module 2 by Friday.
11th Grade
Bible - We will finish up our study on the Tower of Babel and discuss the line of Shem through Abram this next week.
History: Great Generals.
Literature: Sense and/or Sensibility? Elinor and Marianne realize that both of the men they are in love with are actually engaged to someone else. How will they handle this difficulty? What can we learn about "rightly ordered" emotions?Physics - We will study one-dimensional motion and free-fall
Spanish II - We will beginb chapter 1B, pgs. 44-56. "Que haces despues de las clases?" Make comparisons using 'tan' and 'tanto'; we will review the verbs, "saber" and "conocer".
Pre-Calculus - We will spend our week discussing complex numbers and seeing how they apply to polar coordinates.
