Lions BasketballRegents Lions at Tupelo Christian Preparatory School (11.3.11)Thursday, Nov. 3, our basketball teams played Tupelo Christian Preparatory School winning both the JV girls and JV boys games. In the girls game, the Lady Lions pulled out an impressive 35-15 season opener against the Lady Eagles. Leading the way for the Lions was Aliyah Herod with 12 points, Jenna Ursic with 8, Erin Getzin with 6, Holly Prather with 5 and Madison McCay and Kaylee Norris each adding 2. Each Lady Lion saw action and played well. Moving over to the boys game, the boys had a 34-12 win over the Eagles. The Lions fought hard the whole game through with all players seeing playing time. Leading the way for the boys team was Josh McManus with 12 points, followed by Nate McManus, Daniel Brummett and Braxton Ruder each with 6 points, and Taylor Rayburn adding 4. Regents Lions vs Tupelo Christian Preparatory School (11.5.11)The Regents Lady Lions had a great game this afternoon. They played the Tupelo Christian Lady Eagles and won 20-10. Great all-around performances from all players. Leading the way for the Lions were Jenna Ursic, Aliyah Herod and Kaylee Norris each with 4 points, and Holly Prather, Lilli Alford, Madison McCay and Erin Getzin with 2 a piece. Although Grace Smith and Karly Adams did not score they both contributed defensively and offensively to help the Lady Lions win. Next game is vs the Memphis Home School Association. The Regents boys started the game off strong getting a quick lead with the help of Nate McMansus' sharp shooting along with TPCS turnovers lead to some fast break points. Regents was able to maintain the lead with good offense and good defense allowing only 9 points in the first half while scoring 28. Regents came out strong again on both ends. They were able to get good dribble penetration and hit outside shots. Everyone played good minutes and contributed to the win. Braxton and Peyton helped out off the bench with scoring and Daniel was big on rebounds pulling down 6. Everyone played hard from start to finish. Coach Hadley was very happy with the team's effort and is looking forward to Mondays game. Way to go lions! !!!! Regents Lions at MHEA (11.7.11)The Lady Lions lost their first game of the season on the road against a very talented MHEA Eagles 44-16. Leading the way for the Lions was Jenna Ursic with 7 points, Kaylee Norris with 6 and Aliyah Herod with 3. The next game is Monday, Nov. 14, against MHEA at home. The JV boys suffered their first loss of the season to the MHEA Eagles 63-57. They didn't go down without a fight, battling the whole game. The score went back and forth without any team really pulling away. Josh McManus forced over time by hitting a clutch freethrow to tie the game. Both teams fought hard and and showed great mental and physical toughness. MHEA was able to hit freethrows in the last seconds to seal the game. The McManus brothers were great on the offense end combining for 42 points, Nate McManus having 31 and Josh McManus 11. Taylor Rayburn added on 7, Zach Brummett 5 and Daniel Brummett 3. Coach Hadley was very pleased with their efforts and how the players kept their heads high after the loss. The next game is Monday, Nov. 14, against MHEA at home. Regents Lions vs MHEA (11.14.11)
Regents Lions at Kemper Academy (12.1.11)Tonight the Lady Lions won their first district game of the season 31-22. Each player contributed to the win both offensively and defensively. Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Aliyah Herod and Kaylee Norris both with 8 points. Erin Getzin added 5 followed by Lilli Alford and Madison McCay with 4. Holly Prather also added 2 for the Lions. Great performances by Grace Smith and Karly Adams off the bench to help seal the victory! Next game is Saturday at St. George in Memphis. Regents Lions at St. George's (12.3.11)Today the Regents Lions played St. George up in Memphis. In the first game the boys lost the 56 to 21. Regents fought hard the whole game and never gave up. They learned a lot as a team and are looking forward to getting back in the gym Monday to prepare for Tuesday's District game vs Centeal. Scoring for the Lions were: Regents vs Central (12.6.11)Tonight the Regents Lions hosted district opponent Central Academy. In the girl's game, the Lady Lions started off strong with some quick buckets from Aliyah Herod and Holly Prather, as the lady lions went on to win 29-3. Outstanding defense was played by all Lady Lions, as each player saw ample playing time. Leading the Lady Lions with 11 points was Aliyah Herod, followed by teammates Holly Prather and Erin Getzin each with 8 points and Kaylee Norris with 2. In the boy's game, the Lions were down at the half 28 to 17 but played a great second half coming back to win 43 to 38. Great man to man defense resulting in getting turnovers and transition layups helped seal the victory. Taylor Rayburn and Josh McManus crashed the boards pulling down 20 rebounds. Nate and Josh Mcmanus combined for 33 points by attacking the rim and hitting jumpers. Leading the Lions was Josh McManus 21, Nate McManus 12, Taylor Rayburn 5, Braxton Ruder 4 and John Haga Lewis 1. Regents will host Hebron this Friday in another district match up. Please come out and support the lions. Girl's tip off at 5pm with boys following. Regents vs Hebron (12.9.11)Regents hosted the Hebron Eagles in an exciting games Friday night. In the girls game, the Lady Lions trailed the Lady Eagles 16-4 after the first quarter of play. The Lady Lions did not give up, fighting hard, rebounding and holding their opponent to only one basket the whole second quarter but still trailed18-11 at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Lions came out hot tying the score at 20 going into the 4th period behind the scoring duo of Madison McCay and Aliyah Herod. But they would not stop there. They continued on with impressive defense, rebounding and fast break shots that put them into overtime tied 32-32. Big performances by Erin Getzin, Holly Prather, Kaylee Norris down low sent the game into a second overtime. Still fighting hard and showing heart, the Lady Eagles pulled ahead with just a few seconds left in the second overtime but the Lady Lions did not give up. Key free throws by Lilli Alford helped the game go into it's third overtime. As the game went back and forth the Lady Lions continued to play with heart and with their favorite verse "I can do all things". Through hardwork, teamwork and heart the Lady Lions sealed the game with a 44-40 3OT win. Leading the Lady Lions was Aliyah Herod with 17 points, followed by Madison McCay with 9, Kaylee Norris with 7, Erin Getzin and Lilli Alford with 4, and Holly Prather with 3. In the boys game, the lions won the game in overtime 38 to 37. The lions came back in the second half to take the lead with solid team rebounding and good ball movement on offense. Our boys fought the whole game and never backed down. Leading in scoring was Josh McManus with 16, Nate McManus 8, Braxton Ruder 7, Taylor Rayburn 4, and Daniel Brummett 3. Great game Lions!!! The boys are done until January but the girls have one last game before Christmas break at 4pm on Friday, Dec. 16 vs visiting St.George out of Memphis. Regents vs St. George's (12.16.11)The Lady Lions had a tough game against visiting St. George's out of Memphis Friday night, falling 13-41. Leading the way for the Lions was Kaylee Norris with 6, Madison McCay with 4, Jenna Ursic with 2 and Erin Getzin with a lone free throw.The Lions will be off for Christmas break and return, in action, Friday, Jan. 6 where they will travel to play District opponent Calhoun Academy. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Regents at Calhoun (1.6.12)Tonight the Lady Lions lost their first district game to the Calhoun Lady Cougars, 16-36. Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Erin Getzin with 8, Aliyah Herod, Kaylee Norris, Holly Prather and Madison McCay each with 2.Regents JV boys played away at Calhoun academy tonight. The lions jumped out to a 21 to 0 lead at the half with good pressure defense and dribble penetration on offense. Everyone on the team got quality playing time and played hard to the end. The lions finished the game with a 27 to 8 win. Scoring for the lions were Nate McManus with 13, Zach Brummett 4, Taylor Rayburn 4, John Haga Lewis 4, and Peyton walker with 2. The girl's pee wee team and the boy's pee wee team both ended the night with impressive wins! Way to go pee wee basketball! The pee wee boys play tomorrow at Holy Family in Holly Springs at 10am. All Regents' basketball teams will be back in action Tuesday, Jan. 10, when they host Winona at home. Pee Wee girls to tip off first at 4pm and other games to follow. Regents vs Winona (1.10.12)Tonight the Lions hosted district opponent Winona in a four game series. Starting with the pee wee girls game, where the Lions ended the game in a 12-12 tie. Each player saw playing time and hustled until the very end. Below are the stats for the pee wee girls: Anna Grace Newsom had 4 points, Lauren Sink 3 rebounds and 2 steals, Anna Mathis Larson 6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, Virginia Smith 2 rebounds, Sara Katherine Waller 1 rebound, Lexie Hubbard 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal and Sam Rayburn 1 rebound and 1 steal In the pee wee boys game the Lions won the game 19-2. Each boy saw playing time as well. GREAT JOB PEE WEE TEAMS!!! The JV girl's game was a battle. The Lady Lions and the Lady Stars went back and forth ending in a Lion's loss, 21-24. Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Aliyah Herod with 9 points and Erin Getzin, Kaylee Norris and Madison McCay each adding 4. Great hustle and defense ladies! In the JV boys game Regents lost the game 42-28. Regents fought hard the whole game against a big and physical Winona team. Leading the lions in scoring was Nate McManus with 13, Josh McManus with 7, Daniel Brummett 6, and Taylor Rayburn with 2. Good game Lions. The next game will be Friday, Jan. 13, with JV girls tipping off at 6pm vs Kemper Academy followed by JV boys at 7pm. Regents vs Kemper (1.13.12)Tonight the Regents Lions hosted district opponent, Kemper Academy. In the girl's game, the Lady Lions jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first quarter. They continued to score and work well as a team ending the half ahead 23-7. Kemper attempted to fight back but the Lady Lions kept playing hard sealing a 40-24 win. Leading the way, with a season high, was Aliyah Herod with 18 points followed by Madison McCay with 8, Erin Getzin with 7, Kaylee Norris with 4, Lilli Alford with 2 and a free throw from Holly Prather. Great teamwork ladies!In the boy's game, despite a slow start, Regents was able to take a 27 to 15 lead. Good defense and rebounding helped the Lions pull out a 49 to 28 win. Everyone got quality minutes and contributed to the win. Leading in scoring for the Lions was Nate McManus with 16, Josh McManus 14, Taylor Rayburn 8, Zach Brummett 5, John-Haga Lewis 5, and Peyton Walker with 2. Great game Lions! The Lions will hit the road Tuesday to play Central Academy with the girls tipping off at 5pm and the boys at 6pm. Regents at Central (1.17.12)Tonight the Lions traveled to Macon, MS to play the Vikings of Central Academy. In the girl's game, the Lady Lions started the game off slow, coming off a three day weekend. That quickly changed in the second period when the Lady Lions forced the Lady Vikings to multiple turnovers and ran with the lead never turning back. Each Lady Lion saw playing time and played great! The team ended with a 28-11 win. Leading the way was Aliyah Herod with 18 points, Erin Getzin and Madison McCay each with 4 and Kaylee Norris with 2 points. Great defense from Lilli Alford, Holly Prather, Grace Smith and Karli Adams. In the boys game, the Lions started the game off strong taking a 24 to 9 lead at the half. Regents shot the ball well and played great defense. Everyone got to see good minutes and contributed to the win. Leading in scoring was Josh McManus with 12, Nate McManus 11, John-Haga Lewis 6, Daniel Brummett 4, and Taylor Rayburn with 2. Both Regents teams will travel to play district opponent Hebron on Friday. Girls tip off at 5pm. Regents at Hebron (1.20.12)The Regents Lions played at Hebron Christian School tonight. In the girl's game the Lady Lions started off slow trailing at halftime. Fighting back hard in the second half the Lady Lions came up short, 26-20. Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Madison McCay with 6, Aliyah Herod, Kaylee Norris and Lilli Alford with 4 each and Erin Getzin with 2.In the boy's game the Lions fought hard the whole game but fell short losing 37 to 16. Unfortunately Taylor Rayburn suffered a wrist injury late in the second quarter causing him to leave the game. Scoring for the Lions were Nate McManus with 7, Josh McManus 5, Daniel Brummett 2, and Zach Brummett 2. Way to fight hard Lions. Next game is at home when all teams will play Calhoun Academy for their last home game. Pee wee girls will tip off at 3:30pm. Regents vs Calhoun (1.24.12)Tonight was the Regents Lions last home game for pee wee and JV basketball. There was a four game sweep in favor for the Lions. In the pee wee girl's game, the Lady Lions jumped out quickly, maintaining a big lead throughout the game, finishing with a 21-3 win. Leading the way was Anna Mathis Larson with 8 points, Lauren Sink with 7, Lexie Hubbard with 4 and Gracie Adams with 2. In the boy's pee wee game, the Lions pulled out an impressive 28-8 win. Great defense and rebounding came from Graham Norris, Will Larson, Jack Gililland, Alex Price and Halton Wynn. Leading the way for the Lions was Mark McManus and Gray Jenkins each with 6 points, Will Larson and David Prather with 4 a piece, Landon Norris with 3, and Graham Norris and Eli Hartnett with 2 points each. The JV girls had a tough match up coming into the game 0-1 vs the Lady Cougars. The game was back and forth until the Lady Lions pulled ahead in the fourth quarter winning 45-36. Great defense by Lilli Alford, Grace Smith, Madison McCay and Aliyah Herod, forced turnovers which the Lady Lions turned into points, allowing only 2 points in both the 3rd and 4th quarters. Great put backs from Erin Getzin and Kaylee Norris was just what the Lady Lions needed to seal the game. Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Aliyah Herod with 16 points, followed by Erin Getzin with 13, Madison McCay with 8, Kaylee Norris with 6 and Holly Prather with 2. In the final district match-up of the night, the JV boys jumped out to an early lead going up 16 to 3 after the first quarter. The Lions used an aggressive press and rebounded well to limit scoring chances for the Cougars. Everyone saw good minutes and contributed to the win, 42-14. Scoring for the Lions were Nate McManus with 12, Josh McManus 9, Zach Brummett 8, Graham Norris 4, Jared Redding 3, Peyton Walker 2, John Haga Lewis 2 and Daniel Brummett 2. Nate McManus also had 10 boards and Josh McManus had 8. Great games Lions! Regents at Winona (1.27.12)Tonight the Regents Lions traveled to Winona to play the Winona Stars in their last pee wee games for the season. Starting with the girl's pee wee game, the Lady Lions started off slow but picked up momentum. Each girl saw playing time and fought hard. The final score was 10-8. Anna Mathis Larson scored 4 points, Sam Rayburn and Gracie Adams scored 2 points.In the boy's pee wee game, the Lions came out strong. Each player saw plenty of playing time and played hard. The Lions won, 26-16. Graham Norris had 2 points, 3 rebounds, Landon 2 points, 5 rebounds, Sam Hartnett 5 points, 1 rebound, Mark McManus 4 points, 3 rebounds, Gray Jenkins 5 points, 1 rebound, Eli Hartnett 5 points, 3 rebounds, and David Prather 2 points, 5 rebounds. Great defense and hustle by Jack Gililland, Alex Price, Will Larson and Halton Wynn. Great season Pee Wee! In the JV girl's game, the Lady Lions trailed after the first quarter 10-2. They finally picked up some momentum scoring in the second quarter but could not get into sync and catch back up. They lost their last regular season game against the Lady Stars, 33-17. Aliyah Herod ended the game with 8 points, Madison McCay 4 points, Lilli Alford and Kaylee Norris with 2 points and Holly Prather with 1 point. In the JV boy's game, Regents fell short 40-16. Regents will look to rebound from the loss and get a win in the district tournament next week. Scoring for the Lions were Nate McManus with 9, Josh McManus 5, and John-Haga Lewis with 2. The regular season play is finished but both JV teams will tip off next week in Kemper for the District Tournament. More information to follow. FIRST ROUND OF JV DISTRICT TOURNAMENTThe boys played the first game against Central Academy. It was a hard fought battle but the Lions pulled out a 48-35 win. The team played aggressive defense the whole game which led to a lot of transition baskets for the Lions. Central played hard and kept it close all game. Regents had a strong 4th quarter out scoring Central 19 to 10. Scoring for regents was Josh McManus with 22, Nate McManus 12, Daniel Brummett 4, Graham Norris 6, and Zach Brummett 4. In the girls game, the Lady Lions beat host Kemper Academy 46-24. All girls saw playing time and played well. Leading the Lady Lions was Aliyah Herod with 14, Madison McCay 10, Kaylee Norris 8, Erin Getzin 6, Lilli Alford and Holly Prather with 4 a piece. Both teams advanced and play on Thursday. The boys tip off at 5:15pm and the girls at 6:30pm. Semi Finals of District Tournament Tonight was the second round of the district tournament. The boys played the Hebron Eagles and the girls played the Lady Stars from Winona.In the boys game, the Lions had a good first half leading by 2 after the first quarter and trailing by 3 after the first half. Hebron had a strong 4th quarter outscoring Regents 19 to 5 to seal the win with an ending score of 45 to 23. Regents fought hard the whole game and played a tough half court zone. Nate and Josh Mcmanus lead the way on offense hitting tough layups against a bigger Hebron team. Great season Regents, you showed great toughness. You made your coach very proud. Leading in scoring was Nate McManus with 13, Josh McManus 6, Zach Brummett 2, and John-Haga Lewis with 2. In the girls game, the Lady Lions fought a hard battle falling short 18-27. The score does not do justice for how hard the Lady Lions fought. Being down after the first quarter the Lady Lions fought back and took the lead going into halftime. In the second half, the Lady Stars came back fighting and the Lady Lions held their own but ended up coming up short. Leading the Lady Lions was Aliyah Herod with 6 points and Madison McCay, Lilli Alford and Erin Getzin with 4 points each. Great season Lions! |
