Let's Meet Our Teachers!

Each week, we're adding a new teacher to our list until we've introduced all of our teachers.  Check back weekly until our list is complete!

This year, we welcome a new First Grade teacher, Nancy Hooker.  Nancy is a native of Greenville, South Carolina.  A graduate of Clemson University, she taught elementary in both public and private school settings in South Carolina for six years.  Nancy and her family moved to Oxford in 2004.  Her husband, Jeff, is the Assistant Pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church.  They have three children who are students at Regents: John (5th grade), Lucas (3rd grade), and Mary Liles (1st grade).

Born and raised in Germantown, Tennessee, Lisa attended Evangelical Christian School from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. She truly appreciates the gift of a Christian education.  Lisa graduated from Ole Miss with both a Bachelor and Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.  After working as an engineer for over a year, Lisa and her husband Nathan moved to Thailand to teach at a Thai boarding school.  The two years in Thailand were an amazing experience for the Ewells, but they are glad to be back home!  Lisa is currently teaching 6th grade math, 7th grade math, and Algebra 2 at Regents.  She also is pursuing a Master's in Mathematics at Ole Miss while working as a Graduate Fellow for the Center for Math and Science Education at the university.  Regents is very excited to have Lisa on our faculty.

This year, Sally joined the Regents faculty as one of our two new Pre-Kindergarten teachers.  Sally was born and raised in Clarksdale, MS.  She attended Ole Miss and graduated in 1994 with a degree in Elementary Education.  Sally married Ware shortly after graduation, and they lived in Starkville, Orlando and Memphis before returning to Oxford in 2003.  During this time, Sally has taught in both public and private school settings.  Sally and Ware have two daughters who are students at Regents: Mary Victoria, (third grade), and Hope, (Pre-K).  Welcome Sally!  Regents is glad you are here!

Beth Robinson - Pre-Kindergarten
Beth joined our faculty this year as one of our two Pre-Kindergarten teachers.  Beth was born and raised in Senatobia, Mississippi.  After attending Northwest Community College, she finished her education at Delta State University.  Beth graduated from Delta State in 1997 with a degree in Fine Arts.  Two years later, she married Fish whom she met while in College.  They moved to Jackson, and while there, Beth worked for The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi.  In 2004, the Robinsons moved to Oxford.  Fish has served as the Pastor to Students at North Oxford Baptist Church during these years.  In addition to teaching Pre-K at Regents, Beth is a freelance graphic designer.  Fish and Beth have two boys who are students at Regents. Adam is in Kindergarten and Caleb is in Pre-K.  We're so so glad Beth has joined our faculty.  Welcome Beth!

Ty was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee.  He graduated from Rhodes College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music.  After college, Ty attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky where he earned a Masters of Divinity in Biblical and Theological Studies.  Since that time, he has worked as a college ministry intern, a worship leader, a children's minister, and spent a semester as a North American missionary in Cincinatti, Ohio.  One day, Ty hopes to work toward a PhD in Old Testament Studies.  At Regents, the Norris family is very close to Ty.  Lee and Belinda are his Aunt and Uncle, and Kaylee (6th Grade), Graham (4th grade), and Landon (3rd grade) are his first cousins.  We are so pleased to have Ty teaching Humanities to our 7th grade, Latin to our 6th grade and P. E. to our 3rd grade, 5th grade, and 7-10th grades.  Welcome Ty!

Mary Catherine Williams Hewitt - Art, P.E.
Although Mary Catherine is not new to us this year, she has a new name, so we thought we'd feature her this week.  Mary Catherine was born in Starkville, MS where her father was one of the founding campus ministers of Reformed University Fellowship (RUF). She later moved to Germantown, TN where she graduated high school from Evangelical Christian School.  She attended Ole Miss and graduated in 2007 with an Art degree.  After graduation, Mary Catherine worked as an intern for RUF on the campus of Auburn University.  She returned to Oxford last year and joined the Regents staff as our Art teacher.  This Summer, Mary Catherine married Tim Hewitt, and they are enjoying their time here before Tim starts focusing on a degree in Law.  For those of you who could not be at Mary Catherine and Tim's wedding, here's a picture of them. Mary Catherine was a gorgeous bride!  For those of you who weren't able to attend the 10 year celebration, you need to see the art work that Mary Catherine painted for the school.  It is amazing!!!  Thanks Mac for all of your work!

Mrs. Isbell is pictured here with one of the daughters, Kierra.Mrs. Isbell is pictured here with one of the daughters, Kierra.Rachel Isbell - 4th grade Math, Upper School Spanish, P.E.
Rachel was born in Pensacola, FL and lived there until she was four.  A child of missionary parents, her family moved to Mexico where they lived for 6 years.  At age 10, they moved to Ecuador and lived there until she was twelve years old.  They moved back to America to a couple of places, but Rachel's family settled in Oxford for her to attend and graduate from Lafayette High School.  Rachel attended Ole Miss and earned a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Elementary Education and Spanish.  She has taught in several school districts including Oxford and Desoto County.  Most recently, Rachel taught overseas as a missionary at an international Christian school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rachel married the love of her life, Jon, in 1996.  They have 2 beautiful daughters who are students at Regents, Kierra (4th grade) and Raegan (Pre-K).  Rachel wants everyone to know that "I praise God for allowing me to use my love of teaching, but the biggest honor of my life is being a wife and mother!  It has been a blessing watching the Regents' families interact and love their children.  I have learned so much, and I hope that I can help facilitate the learning of Spanish, Math, and P.E."  We are so blessed to have Rachel as a member of the Regents faculty.

Mrs Robinson is pictured here with her daughters Audrey and Macy.Mrs Robinson is pictured here with her daughters Audrey and Macy.Abbie Robinson - 3rd Grade
Abbie Robinson teaches 3rd grade and has been at Regents since January of 2008.  She is married to Stewart Robinson and has two daughters at Regents. Macy is a 3rd grade student, and Audrey is in Kindergarten with Mrs. Gill. The Robinson family moved to Oxford in the Fall of 2007 to be closer to her husband's family in Jackson. Abbie is originally from Alabama and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business from the University of Montevallo in Birmingham. While living in Florida and being a stay-at-home mom, she completed a Transition to Teaching Program and became certified to teach Kindergarten thru 6th grade. Before moving to Oxford, Abbie taught preschool at Covenant Christian School in Panama City, Florida.

Ann Maura is pictured here with her son Davis at last year's King and Queen Tea.Ann Maura is pictured here with her son Davis at last year's King and Queen Tea.Ann Maura Hinton - First Grade
Ann Maura was born in Knoxville, TN, and she grew up in Madisonville, TN where her parents and brother Matt, also a teacher, still live.  Her other brother Scott, a Nurse Anesthetist, lives in Alaska.  Ann Maura's father is a retired Wildlife Biologist and her mother is a retired teacher.  This explains Ann Maura's love for animals, nature, and teaching.  She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1992 with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Special Education.  While at Tennessee, she met her future husband, Robbie, and they married in 1994.  Robbie and Ann Maura moved to Oxford in 2005 when Robbie was hired as Regents' Headmaster.  Ann Maura has experience teaching in a variety of settings. Before joining the Regents faculty in the Fall of 2007, she worked with Autistic children.  Ann Maura has taught First Grade for 3 years at Regents. She has coached girls basketball and is presently one of Cross Country coaches for the Lions.  The Hintons have 3 children: Marianna (6th Grade), Sara Kathryn (5th Grade), and Davis (2nd Grade).  We are thankful for all that Ann Maura brings to the Regents family.

Ms. Fernandez is pictured here with Annaleigh Kurr and Rachel Kroeger.Ms. Fernandez is pictured here with Annaleigh Kurr and Rachel Kroeger.Cindy Fernandez - Director of Humanities, 7th-10th Grade Humanities
There's nobody more appropriate than Miss Fernandez to be teaching at Regents.  Why?  Well,  the College Hill Community is very special to her.  Although she was raised in Nashville and Water Valley, she spent many days visiting her grandparents who lived right around the corner from Regents, and her father, grandparents, great grandparents, and great-great grandparents all went to school in College Hill.  Cindy studied History and Political Science at Vanderbilt University and the University of Mississippi.  She also studied Biblical Studies at Reformed Theological Seminary.  She has worked with youth since1988 in the capacity of teaching with her church.  Cindy has lived abroad on several occasions and came to Regents in 2005.  She taught Third Grade for two years and now heads up the Humanities Department at Regents in addition to teaching history to 8th-10th graders.  When Cindy is not at school, you will probably find her at her home renovating her old family home-place or working in the garden. She loves anything that takes her out of doors, and of course, her animals; but most of all, she loves and is adored by all of the students at Regents.

Mrs. Jones was raised in Winter Park, Colorado (where of course she became an excellent snow boarder!)  College brought her south when she decided to attend Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi.   K. C. graduated from Belhaven in 2007 with a major in English.  She taught English as a second language in Korea for six months and returned shortly before her wedding.   K. C. and Baskin (college sweethearts) married in May of 2008, and the following August, K. C. joined the Regents faculty.  She teaches Fifth and Sixth Grade Humanities.  Also, this year, K. C. is coaching both of the Regents girls basketball teams.  We are so thankful for Mrs. Jones.  Not only is she energetic and fun;  she is truely an excellent teacher.

Mrs. Gill is very dear to our family here at Regents.  She has been with us since the day we opened our doors.  Margaret was raised in Jackson, MS; and after high school, she attended Hinds Community College and Mississippi College. She majored in Religious Education and minored in Home Economics with an emphasis in Child Development.  In 1978, Margaret married Ken and they have two children, Joseph and Jessica.  The Gills have been in Oxford since 1981.  Margaret worked in several church preschool programs, the Lafayette County school system, and the Oxford School system before coming to Regents.  She has been our Kindergarten teacher since the Fall of 1999.  It's hard to express how much Mrs. Gill means to us.  We are so thankful for the way she has loved and taught our children over the years.

Mrs. Barnes is pictured here with her children, Anna and Jacob.Mrs. Barnes is pictured here with her children, Anna and Jacob.Stacy Barnes - Mathematics (5th through 9th grade)
Stacy was born and raised in Memphis, TN.  After graduating from White Station High School, her family moved to Oxford and Stacy enrolled at Ole Miss.  During her Freshman year, she met Russell through the Baptist Student Union, and they started dating shortly after going on a mission trip to New Orleans together.  Stacy earned her Bachelor degree in Mathematics and a Masters in Adult Education.  Russell and Stacy married in 1995. They spent eight years in North Carolina while Russell was in the Navy, but returned to Oxford. The Barnes have 2 children who are students at Regents, Jacob (3rd grade) and Anna (1st Grade).  Stacy has worked at Regents for four years.  She has taught Music and still helps play the piano for Regents during chapel and other programs.  Now, Stacy has her hands full with Math classes.  She teaches Fifth Grade Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry and Trigonometry.  We all love Mrs. Barnes.  She always greets everyone with a smile, whether it's in class, around campus, or in the pick up line after school.  Thank you Stacy for all you contribute to our school!

Leslie Carr - Fourth Grade Humanities, Music
Mrs. Carr is pictured here with her daughter, Emily.Mrs. Carr is pictured here with her daughter, Emily.Leslie was born in Arkansas, but raised in Southaven, MS.  She attended Blue Mountain College, which is just northeast of Oxford, near New Albany, MS.  After graduation where she earned degrees in both English and Math, Leslie worked in both education and non-education jobs.  One of her favorite jobs was when she spent two years in Belize teaching at Belize Christian Academy.  Leslie would say that it was definitely one of the most rewarding jobs she has had.   In 2000, Leslie married Phillip, who was from Water Valley.  That brought Leslie to Oxford, and eventually to Regents!  She joined the Regents staff in 2007 as the Fourth Grade Humanities teacher.  In addition, Leslie is our much beloved Music teacher.  Leslie and Phillip have a daughter, Emily, who is in the Second grade at Regents.  We are so thankful for Leslie and all that she gives to our school.
